Although they have not been officially confirmed by Nintendo, the ESRB has listed eight new games rated for Wii.

The eight new games are:
- Duck Hunt
- Hogan's Alley
- Kid Icarus
- Kirby's Adventure
- Pilot Wings
- Pro Wrestling
- Punch-Out
- Wild Gunman
Assuming Nintendo is sticking to their "ten virtual console titles a month" policy, we should expect to see at least two more before the end of the year.
This batch is a lot more interesting than the last, I think. I'll definitely be picking up Kirby, Kid Icarus, and possibly Pilot Wings.

First4figures.com has unveiled their newest bounty hunter sculpt from Metroid Prime Hunters.

Trace measures 10.5" and will be limited to a production of 1,500 statues.
He joins Samus and Kanden as collectible statues being made by the company. The figure should be available sometime in Q1 2007 with a price tag of $89.99.
I really like how this prototype turned out and I'm actually considering picking up this one for my own collection of random figures.post/read comments

The verdict is in on our latest NintendoPoll. PollGal? Whatever. The Wii (now just two weeks away if you can believe that) features a Wii Channel whereby you can create a 3D caricature of yourself, called a Mii, and share it with friends and see it in games. The poll question was: What do you think of the Mii Channel?

It seems that the greatest number of you are going to be gleefully pouring your hearts into your Miis, spending hours sculpting them into the perfect digital chibi expression of yourselves. A third of you, meanwhile, like the concept just enough to tinker a bit. The remainder of you are split between not caring about the Mii Channel, not knowing about the Mii Channel, and having no opinion on anything except a nice thick, gooey, piping hot slice of Grandma's bakery best.
The new poll has been posted, and this time the question concerns The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. It's been getting a lot of very positive impressions this week from game journalists, who insist that the new Wii controls are the only way to go. Yet there are still holdouts among you who claim to be holding out for the more traditional GameCube version. What will you be buying this holiday? Vote in our poll and decide!post/read comments

Ombre took some footage of his local GameStop when they opened up the big box that contained the Wii display.
He also got a chance to watch the display being setup by the Nintendo representative and chat a bit with him.
Here are a few still pictures as well:

When I went to visit my local GameStop, they had not had the rep come by to turn on the display unfortunately. Hopefully if any of you go out to try out Wii you'll be met with better luck!
Thanks Ombre for sending this in!post/read comments

As if the Super Smash Bros Brawl trailer wasn't enough to make us salivate, Nintendo also showed the following video to remind us of all the great Wii games that will be released in 2007:
In the video, clips can be seen from a slew of games, including Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, BWii, Mario Party 8, Project H.A.M.M.E.R., and even a brief glimpse of Wesker from Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.
2007 looks like it's shaping up to be an awesome year for the Wii. I really wish we could see more of RE:UC though. It's one of my most anticipated games of next year.post/read comments

One of the biggest remaining question marks lingering above the launch of Nintendo's Wii console has finally been dealt with, as Nintendo has released the list of titles that will be available this year on the Virtual Console service, as well as the prices for Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 titles.

The following titles will be available for download in 2006:
NES - 500 WP each
Baseball
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Ice Hockey
The Legend of Zelda
Mario Bros.
Pinball
Soccer
Solomon's Key
Tennis
Urban Champion
Wario's Woods
Super NES - 800 WP each
F-Zero
SimCity
Nintendo 64 - 1,000 WP each
Super Mario 64
Sega Genesis - 800 WP each
Altered Beast
Columns
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
Ecco the Dolphin
Golden Axe
Gunstar Heroes
Ristar
Sonic the Hedgehog
Space Harrier II
Toe Jam & Earl
TurboGrafx-16 - 600 WP each
Bomberman '93
Bonk's Adventure
Dungeon Explorer
Super Star Soldier
Victory Run
In all that makes thirty titles for the Virtual Console during the holiday season. Nintendo has said that roughly ten titles per month will be made available after this.
I find the list a little disappointing, as many of those NES titles -- fun though they are -- are more like mini-games by today's standards than full games. And why so many NES sports titles? Will people really want to play those when they've all got Wii Sports sitting right there? Hopefully we get a more robust selection early in 2007.post/read comments

While retail chain GameStop opened pre-orders on the PlayStation 3 this morning -- and quickly sold out -- the status of their pre-order program for Nintendo's Wii was unknown. Until now.

Enthusiast news site TheWiire.com obtained confirmation from GameStop that pre-orders on the Wii will be accepted beginning this Friday, October 13. While supplies of the PS3 were known to be limited to between eight and eighteen units per store on launch day, no numbers have been given regarding Wii availability. However, as there are said to be at least a million units ready for launch day in North America -- which is more than double what Sony is providing -- Wii pre-orders should be far more plentiful this Friday.
Additionally, while the PS3 pre-order required a whopping $100 downpayment, pre-orders on Wii are said to run $25-50.
It's about time we got word about this. While I don't expect a Wii to be too difficult to come by on November 19 if you really want one, it's always nice to have a little insurance. If you travel to GameStop or EB this Friday for a pre-order, be sure to come back and post your experience in the comments!post/read comments

Recently our correspondant Jason T. was on hand when Hawthorne Heights and the Wii invaded the Nintendo World Store.
Hawthorne Heights played an acoustic version of "This Is Who We Are" which can be seen below:
Along with the video he sent in were his thoughts and impressions:
Wii Console - all I can say is that the thing is SMALL. You could probably fit it into some large cargo pants pockets. Depending on the game, loading times can either be short (WarioWare) or fairly long (Metroid Prime 3 or ExciteTruck) There were a few things I found strange though:
1. You know the blue-lit disc drive? It wasn't blue or lit, it was as if the console was off. Though the power button had a little LED in the button itself, to show it was on. Apparently the light was on upon start-up, according to the employees, and they have no idea why it wasn't on later.
2. We know that the sensor bar goes all wonky when halogen lights are in the room. But did you know that natural sunlight messes it up too? That's right, if you have the sun beaming right onto the sensor bar, it doesn't work. For about an hour or so, the sun shone right into the store, the two MP3:C kiosks had to have curtains above them, and the Wii Sports Tennis and Shooting Game kiosks were unplayable since they were "shrouded" in sunlight. Later the sun went behind a building, and everything was in working order again. So when you get your Wii, don't play it in the sunlight. Or keep the sensor bar and TV away from the windows.
Wii-mote - When I first held it, I couldn't believe how amazingly comfortable it was. It certainly had some weight to it, which is good. It didn't feel cheaply made, when compared to the Gamecube controller. It did have rumble, but it wasn't too intense or soft either; it was JUST right. The buttons were responsive and easy to reach, except the D-Pad was a little hard to reach with my thumb. Also the fact that Plus and Minus buttons are used for actions such as Pause and Maps can get kind of confusing. But with those little exceptions, I have great faith in what we'll expect this November.
Come inside to read more of Jason's impressions!( More inside. )

The results of our latest poll have come in. The question posed was: Which would you rather have packed in with the Wii?

It seems that the majority of you would rather have had two controller sets in the box. Meanwhile, the actual pack-in deal we're getting&8212;Wii Sports&8212;is fine with a quarter of you, while another quarter of you would have preferred to receive the "classic" controller in the box. Ten percent of you like getting a pack-in game; you just wish it were a different one. And five percent of you think Since U Been Gone is a really great song and you want more.
The new poll is up, and it concerns the Mii Channel, the feature on the Wii that lets you customize your own avatar to use in your (and online friends') games. Go and vote!post/read comments

While it's been common knowledge for awhile that there will be lots of Wii systems available during this coming holiday season, the news may just have gotten even better.

The stalker-like fellow scandalously ogling a tray of Broadway chips in the photo above certainly has plenty to smile about. While Nintendo had previously pledged up to four million Wii consoles available by the end of the year, a report by UBS semiconductor analyst Alex Guana claims that production is actually exceeding expectations.
According to the analyst, whose comments were reported by investment site Briefing.com, two million Wiis have already been manufactured. What's more, at least seven million and as many as nine million more units are expected in Q4 of 2006. This would bring the total number of consoles built (though not necessarily shipped) to an incredible nine to eleven million before the end of the year.
Shortages? What shortages? Wii is most certainly set up in a great position to sell to lots of happy Nintendo fans, disappointed Sony fans, and all of their grandmothers as well.post/read comments

According to Target's weekly ad the company along with Nintendo will donate 100% profit made on the sale of pink Nintendo DS Lite systems to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Currently the system retails for $129.99.
If pink doesn't strike your fancy you could always purchase a black or white system elsewhere for cheaper and donate the money to a charity if you felt like being charitable.post/read comments

For a company that supposedly always finishes "last" in the console race, Nintendo has a lot to smile about compared to its competitors.

Gamers all over the world continue to buy the Nintendo DS like it's going out of style. This, compared with a weak yen, has prompted Nintendo to raise its profit forecast for the year. The company now expects to make a net profit of 100 billion yen ($850 million), up from its previous forecast of 83 billion yen ($700 million). It is unknown whether or not Satoru Iwata actually sleeps on a bed of money at this point, but he is most certainly very comfortable either way.
The company also said that it plans to ship 82 million DS units worldwide this year, along with 3.3 million Game Boy Advance units.
"...like it's going out of style." I don't get that expression. If something's going out of style, wouldn't people stop buying it? Oh well. Good news for Nintendo.post/read comments

Video game retail chain GameStop held its annual sales conference this weekend just past, at which sales managers were given some interesting pieces of information about the upcoming launch of the Wii.

According to website GameDaily, GameStop officials have stated that theirs will be the only retail chain to receive playable Wii kiosks during the holiday season. This is in contrast to Sony, which has spent $30 million to get Playstation 3 kiosks into 15,000 retail locations.
"Getting that controller into someone's hands is very important," said GameStop president Steve Morgan.
Also revealed at the conference is that GameStop has not yet decided if it will accept pre-orders for the Wii or the Playstation 3. Morgan says that the company learned "a lesson" from last year's bumpy Xbox 360 launch, and may not offer pre-orders at all this time, in spite of Wii's reportedly large shipments on launch day.
GameDaily has not yet received a response to their request for comment from Nintendo regarding this issue. We will monitor the story and post any updates as they occur.
If true, I think this is a huge mistake on Nintendo's part. "Playing is believing," so their slogan goes, and it is absolutely essential that as many shoppers as possible get the chance to try out the system and its unique controller. The majority of those shoppers will be at places like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target and Circuit City. Not only that, but GameStop is notorious for not even bothering to keep its kiosks functional half the time. I'm really hoping Nintendo comes out and contradicts GameStop on this.post/read comments

This week, a clip appeared on the ABC News video-on-demand site wherein correspondent Ned Potter sits down with NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime for an interview about the upcoming Wii.

The clip, which you can watch by clicking the "Source" link below, is lengthy -- clocking in at just over ten minutes -- allowing Reggie to speak leisurely about Nintendo's plans. Some choice quotes:
On sacrifices to get the price low:
"There's no DVD playback capability, and our thinking is most consumers have about five different DVD [players] in their house, so that's not going to be missed. Also, our games are not high definition. And again our thinking is, high definition penetration at this point is only about 15% of households; it's not something that we believe the mass market is really going after. Our focus with a mass market game was to have a mass market price and a mass market collection of software, and we think we've done that."
On hardcore gamers vs. new gamers:
"To be successful, do we need that [non-gamer] audience? Honestly, no. Because we have the breadth for the mainstream core consumer -- the core gamer today -- to play. We have that product. But to be dominant in this industry; to win more broadly? We do believe we need that [non-gamer] audience, and that's why we're focused on having the software to get that consumer."
On whether Nintendo needs to beat its competition:
"We certainly want to. ...Our goal is to be the leader in this industry."
It's a great interview, with many other enlightening comments by Reggie, so make sure you watch it for yourself. Reggie is convincing enough to sell the Wii to many of its doubters...and to fry them to a crisp with laserbeams from his eyes if they don't. Or so the legends say.post/read comments
